BRZ Driver 2: Alex Palevsky. A self-professed “car guy” his entire life, as he puts it, “I was definitely born a car guy. Most kids would ask for bedtime stories, I would ask for car magazines.” Alex brought the discerning eye of a journalist to his experience with the BRZ. He’s written for several automotive publications, so he’s spent years driving all sorts of high-performance vehicles.

The BRZ caught his eye because it seemed to harken back to one of his favorite cars, the e30 BMW M3, which is, as Alex says, “All about chassis finesse and vivid feedback in the corners, not brutal deployment of horsepower. Cars like these allow you to bond intimately with them, to perform every input in one fluid and seemingly seamless motion, and to always sense where their limits lie and how close you are to breaching them.”

How will the BRZ stack up? Stay tuned for a preview of what he had to say.

We took two lucky enthusiasts to a gorgeous stretch of an isolated, curvy highway in central California, so they could get behind the wheel of the all-new BRZ to tell us what they thought.

BRZ Driver 1: Scott Dorn. He’s a massage therapist by trade and a performance enthusiast from as far back as he can remember. A fan of Subaru for years, he was one of the first to purchase the WRX when it became available in the States, and it’s still his daily driver. For him, the BRZ was intriguing because its design is uncompromised by an existing platform, and, in his words, “It’s a special car. This car has been designed for drivers.”

We’ll soon have a preview of what happened when this hands-on healer got his hands on the BRZ.

We spent a couple of days shooting photography and action video of the all-new BRZ. We knew this purpose-built sports car was going to look athletic and beautiful—and it did—but we also knew that so much of the excitement it holds for enthusiasts is in how it feels to drive. So we thought, why not bring a couple of enthusiasts along, let them drive the car and tell us how it felt?
You’ll see more posts soon about the lucky drivers who got a chance to take BRZ on some unforgettable runs in a setting that brought out its best. Until then, check out some behind-the-scenes images taken at the shoot, so you can see what we were up to.

The Sno*Drift Rally, round one of the six-event 2012 Rally America National Championship, challenged nearly 70 top rally teams with over 130 miles of snow and ice-covered roads in northern Michigan this past weekend.

Subaru Rally Team USA’s David Higgins and Craig Drew dominated in their 5-door 2012 Subaru WRX STI rally car, leading from the start and winning 15 of the event’s 24 competitive stages. Finishing nearly two minutes clear of their closest rival, the win has given Higgins and SRT USA the initial points lead in the 2012 Rally America National Championship.

Check out the above video of Higgins and Drew competing in the 2012 Sno*Drift Rally!
